Also called a plunger, press pot, or cafetiere, the French Press is a quick and easy way to make a full-bodied cup of coffee for you and your guests.
What you'll need
French Press (standard 32 ounce)
Grinder
Spoon or stir stick
Gram scale
Filtered water
Timer
Recommended Grind - Coarse
STEP 1
Preheat the press and metal filter with hot water. Start with freshly ground medium-course with a ratio of 1 part coffee to 15 parts water. Or for a common 1-liter French press like this one, use around 60 grams coffee to start, adding more or less depending on the strength level you prefer.
STEP 2
Fill the press about ¼ of the way with just-off-boiling water. Give it a gentle stir to ensure all of the coffee is saturated.
STEP 3
Then continue filling the press until the scale reads 900g, and set the plunger gently on top.
STEP 4
Start a 4-minute timer as soon as you’ve added the coffee. At 4 minutes, press the plunger to the bottom of the carafe. Decant and enjoy.
